Every woman has inspiring stories, experiences, words and thoughts to share with the world. Warrior Women Wednesdays was formed to recognize those that don’t allow circumstances to rule their lives. They make lemonade out of lemons and continue on. The struggle is real but these Warriors can teach us all how to move on and succeed especially in this crazy world !
Today, I’m interviewing a friend of mine that I’ve known and worked with for many years. Her name is Celeste Gogeun and she’s got a story to tell and inspiration for all.
Celeste Gogeun Interview:
1) Tell me about yourself, your family, work and passions-
I am the oldest of five children-we are a very close family…raising our children together. I have been married for 27 years and have two remarkable children, Brody and Chanelle. They are my world. I LOVE all animals. I have a B.S. in Veterinary Medicine. I was working as a teaching veterinary nurse at Tufts Veterinary School, in Massachusetts—I loved my job! I developed severe allergies and asthma and my doctor advised me to find another line of work….I was devastated. I applied for the position of Cardiac Technician at Tolman Clinical Labs…working with people. I liked my job, I was there 23 years and then the entire department was shut down- November 15, 2019. We were given one hour to pack our belongings. One hour.
2) What is your motivation for joining Direct sales and what made you choose Doterra ?
I had been working my DoTERRA business as a side “gig” for a couple of years…I LOVE the products and sharing my knowledge. It was more of a “social” activity since I was a “borderline” empty nester. Then I lost my job. It really gave me the motivation, time, “kick in the pants” needed to start this as a serious business, rather than just a fun activity. DoTERRA is the largest essential oil business in the world. I love their mission and commitment to empowering people worldwide. DoTERRA sources their oils from all over the world! Through partnerships for global impact and projects in Co-Impact Sourcing areas, people are empowered and lives are changed.
My first drop of peppermint essential oil was all I needed-these oils were the answer to better health and wellness! We use them for literally everything: to help with better sleep, stress and anxious feelings, better focus, alleviate pain, immune support (so crucial especially now), digestive health, better breathing, and so much more.
3) Did you ever go through some tough times, struggles, before Doterra ? Have you felt you were never going to be able to retire or help put your kids through college ?
I absolutely went through tough times—-my husband left his job the morning of 9/11, one hour before the U.S. was under attack. He was a machinist and was determined to run his own business from home. He built a shop…then everything stopped. Literally.
We struggled. I picked up more hours so that I could qualify for company benefits—healthcare for our family. When my oldest was ready for college, I drained my retirement fund-it was our only option. Since, my husband has gone to work full time, working for the city/state. We are fortunate; he has access to great benefits. And now, I don’t worry about paying for my daughters education, I don’t worry about putting healthy food on the table….and I don’t worry about my retirement. My residual income will provide for me, morning, noon, and night.
4) Are you glad you included this venture ? How has this helped you personally and financially ?
I am blessed with this venture. Mental and physical health~~what could be more important??? These times are troubling, we are living in a world that didn’t exist 5 months ago. Essential oils help our bodies, our minds. Knowing that we are using safe, effective, all natural products to support ourselves brings a sense of peace. I have the ability to take action, in my home—without the dreaded midnight run to the pharmacy.
Sharing the products changed; I was teaching classes face to face, belly to belly. I had to shift, like the rest of the world, and now teach and share online. I have grown personally. I had to climb out of my “box” and adapt. I did. For that, I am proud. I have made amazing friendships with my customers-forever friendships that I cherish.
My business has grown dramatically. April 2020 was doTERRAS’ busiest month in its history. People need these products and-they are delivered to your door! This has been a blessing….it is now my full time and only job. I love this company and all of its amazing products. I will share my knowledge with anyone, anytime, anywhere.

6) Can you give some words of wisdom for those that are curious and/ or seeking advice starting a business.
My “word” of wisdom…..passion, when you are passionate about a product you can’t help but share….my goal is “one drop in every home!” Helping others improve their overall physical and emotional health is so rewarding, I receive thank-you messages daily. 7) Is your life better because you followed your passions and didn’t follow the rigid 9-5 ?
My life is great! When I started with doTERRA, it was just a side gig…if I could just pay for my oils, then my car payment, then my mortgage…I am doing all of that and my daughter’s college tuition!….on my terms. I work when I want, where I want. Nice sunny day?….I can float in the pool. I am no longer a prisoner to a cubicle…many mornings are spent drinking coffee, my pup in my lap, my phone in hand….this is my office, my reality. I am blessed.
The Long and Short of it :
I was working alongside Celeste during my 21 years at Tolman Cardiac Labs. This was a Heart Monitoring Lab and we were Cardiac Arrhythmia Technicians. We worked 24/7 -Weekends and Holidays. The lab never closed including power outages and blizzards ! It was essential, as patients needed help all different times of the day.
I still remember shoveling to get into the building during a blizzard as well as the “Big Ice Storm” we had that shut down a great deal of Massachusetts ! It was surreal ! No power, 30 degrees in our homes, but we had to be there. I remember as I was coming home day after day from these shifts, hoping and praying that the lights and heat were back on in my house.
When we were laid off without warning, we realized how NON-ESSENTIAL we were after all. Loyalty and hard work, most believe, is going to get you ahead ! You will be noticed… at least that’s what we all thought. We found out quickly that these traits did not matter…no one is irreplaceable ! Things are different than in our parent’s day.
I’ve always announced from the rooftops– FIND YOUR PLAN B !! You never know when or if your job will quit YOU ! Be proactive.
I began working a “Side Gig” as well during my time at Tolman Labs and was so grateful I did. It brought confidence, and the ability to Make my own fortune instead of making it for someone else !
I hope this brings to light a positive step and discovery we can make for all of us. We need to be our own advocates in this thing called Life. If you can make it enjoyable, don’t hesitate for a minute !
